The beginning of May Chris was in Madrid for a recording of works by the Spanish composer Manuel Garcia, a contemporary of Beethoven. The two symphonies and a short operetta were played by the Orquesta Nacionales de Españaunder the direction of Christophe Rousset , and the singers were Ainhoa Garmendia soprano, Carol Garcíamezzosoprano, Gustavo de Gennaro tenor and José Antonio López baritone. The following 6 weeks were dedicated to the piano, first with Maurizio Pollini recording works by Chopin in Munich, Lang Lang with works by Tchaikovsky and Chopin in Paris and Giuseppe Albanese playing works by Liszt in Faenza. It was (actually) a welcome relief and change for the ears to change instruments and produce a recording at Abbey Road, London of works for guitar and orchestra: ‘Nocturnos de Andalucia’ a really excellent contemporary work in 5 movements composed by Lorenzo Palomo, an orchestrated version of ‘Serenata Espanola’ by Malats and Rodrigo’s ubiquitous ‘Concierto de Aranjuaz’. Christoph Denoth was the soloist and he was accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra , conducted by Jesus Lopez Cobos .
