A new composition for a flute quartet was the impulse for Christopher to be at the legendary AIR studio in London (founded by George Martin). The 50′ composition called Le jour infini by Sam Marzbani was performed by the flautist Wissam Boustany and members of the Brodsky Quartet. An unusual request to record a capella choral music in the rolling snow-covered countryside of Missouri near Kansas City certainly piqued Christopher’s curiosity, and the recording with the Benedictines of Mary was in fact one of the highlights of recent years. The nuns proved to be gifted and diligent singers, and the sincerity of their devotion is apparent in their music-making. They made Christopher and engineer Mark Donahue most welcome and we look forward to returning. Singing of quite a different nature followed a few weeks later in Parma with the tenor Jonas Kaufmann singing Verdi arias, accompanied by the Parma Opera house orchestra conducted by Pier Giorgio Morandi. This inspiring recording took place in the Auditorio Paganini, a sugar factory beautifully redeveloped by Renzo Piano.
