Again crossing the Atlantic, Chris was in Purchase NY to record the Mendelssohn string octet with members of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra , The Mendelssohn violin concerto was also planned but had to be cancelled after the soloist Augustin Dumay fell ill. (The continuation is planned for December.) A couple of weeks later Chris was in Vienna for SONY to record the debut album of the young Russian soprano Aida Garafullina . The ORF Sinfonieorchester was conducted by their Music Director Cornelius Meister . For something completely different, shortly afterwards Christopher was in Norcia, the birthplace of St.Benedict, where he recorded the Monks of Norcia singing plainsong and Gregorian chant. The small Umbrian town was snowed in and rather cold, but the warm hospitality of the monks and the excellent beer they brew contributed to a most pleasant experience. In March followed the completion of the January recording with Catherine Manoukian , of Brahms Double Concerto and the cellist Jakob Koranyi . The recording took place in Helsingborg with the Symphony Orchestra conducted by Stefan Solyom . In April a much warmer experience was the recording of Verdi’s “Aida” in Florence for DECCA. The recording took place in the new home of the Maggio Musicale, and the conductor was Zubin Mehta and soloists included Kristin Lewis, Andrea Bocelliand Carlo Colombara .
