The very talented young Spanish pianist Judith Jáureguiwas in Hannover for sessions with Chris. The programme included works by Liszt, Debussy and Mompou and the instrument used was a Steingraeber concert grand, excellent for this repertoire and indicative of the enormous renaissance in quality of this venerable company based in Bayreuth. Shortly after this Chris was on a jury of the piano competition “Neue Sterne” in Wernigerode. More piano follows, with a recording of Beethoven sonatas with Maurizio Pollini in Munich. These sonatas (op.31 and op.49) in fact conclude the series that Pollini started in 1977 – so hardly a marketing ploy! Shortly afterwards Chris recorded a disc of late works by Aleksander Scriabin with Daniele Pollini (Maurizio’s son). In mid-summer Chris was again in Valencia, recording another opera, Puccini’s Turandot,, conducted by Zubin Mehta with Jennifer Wilson in the title role, and Andrea Bocelli singing Calaf.
